Long Beach, CA – To celebrate the most important holiday for the Cambodian community, the Cambodian Coordinating Council (Cam-CC) would like to announce this year’s, 2008, parade and festival lineup.

First, to start off the New Year celebration, Cam-CC will host the Fourth Annual Cambodian New Year Parade on Sunday, April 6, 2008. The Parade will proceed along Anaheim Street, in the heart of the Cambodian community now officially designated as Cambodia Town. The Fourth Annual New Year Parade is an exciting, fun-filled event, which will showcase unique and colorful floats, traditional and modern Cambodian dancers, musicians, pedicabs, cyclos, and oxcarts. Expect to be astonished, as over 100 parade entrants and 15,000 visitors come together from all over the United States and Cambodia. This year’s parade theme is “Cambodia Town For Diversity,” in honor of the official designation of Cambodia Town by the City of Long Beach on July 3, 2007. Furthermore, the parade will also honor the diversity of Long Beach through the varieties of floats and participants of all backgrounds and ethnicities.

Second, after the parade celebration on April 6, Cam-CC will then host the Cambodian New Year Celebration at El Dorado Regional Park on Saturday, April 12, 2008. The previous year, 2007, was Cam-CC’s best year in terms of promotion and organization. And for
2008, we expect even more people to travel locally as well as internationally to attend this special occasion with our community here in Long Beach. The Cambodian New Year Celebration at El Dorado Park is an all day event, which includes religious ceremonies, carnival games, face painting for kids, live performances, exotic food, and a live band with famous Khmer singers performing throughout the day. Admission tickets are $25 per vehicle if purchased in advance. Tickets will be available at a number of Cambodian businesses throughout Long Beach.

Come. Explore. Sample. You will not be disappointed. The Cambodian New Year is about reunion, family, and prosperity. On behalf of Cam-CC, we would like to wish you a Happy Cambodian New Year or Sur Sdey Chnam Thmey if you’re really feeling adventurous.
